On Tuesday 24th March, Rosie Duffield MP hosted a drop-in for MPs and Peers in Parliament with Meningitis Research Foundation and Meningitis Now UK.
The outbreak in Canterbury has shown the urgent need for Meningitis B (MenB) vaccination for sixth formers and students and the importance of raising awareness of the symptoms of meningitis. This drop in provided an opportunity for Parliamentarians to learn more about the disease and ask any questions they had.
There is still no routine NHS MenB vaccination programme for teenagers and young adults. Rosie is calling on the Government to change this, along with a cross-party group of colleagues, many of whom attended the drop in.
I was very grateful that they came in at very short notice to meet with MPs and Peers, answer their questions and inform us on what we can do to reduce spread of the disease and save lives.
Meningitis Research Foundation and Meningitis Now do vital work across the UK and beyond, to raise awareness of Meningitis and conduct research.
