Last week, Rosie Duffield MP joined leading animal welfare organisations in Parliament calling on the Government to finally implement the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act.
Despite passing with overwhelming cross-party support in 2023, the legislation still hasn’t been brought into action. This delay means UK travel companies can continue to sell and promote cruel animal tourism experiences abroad, including elephant riding, sea life entertainment shows and wild cat handling.
If these activities are considered too cruel to take place in the UK, they should not be sold here as holiday experiences either. I will continue pressing the Government to act and ensure this important and popular law is finally implemented.
