Given the sharp cutback in HMRC staffing in recent years, I have concerns over the readiness of customs arrangements in the event of a No Deal – which I put to the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Jesse Norman, in a letter this week.
Preventing a No Deal is the only surefire way to avoid Kent turning into the nation’s car park – but I am also clear that it is the responsibility of the Prime Minster to ensure contingency plans do not short-change Kent.
